Jay Gee's Nook

Morning all, today I have a card for a new to me challenge Jay Gee's Nook. I found it last night whilst blog hopping and avoiding the ironing :-)

I love the colour purple, and the inspiration pic is a dream:




And here is my take:



I made this card using a white linen card base, and layered some puple patterned paper with some deep purple bazzill. Then using a circular CB folde, embossed a piced of white linen card and distressed with Dusty Concorde and Milled Lavender distress inks.


Then cut and layered a couple of panels, and used an EK Success punch and CB folder and some Dusty concorde for some dimension. Added some grey pearls to some of the larger punched out holes.

I created the little flower using felt, and the little butterfly has had some glossy accents added for a bit shine.


Finally stamped the sentiment using Waltzingmouse Stamps Fancy Phrases and added some gems.

I made this card a little while ago, and had not blogged it - then seeing the inspiration pic I remembered I had it in my stash, I hope that's allowed!

WMSC 59, PDCC 93, The Pretty Little Ribbon Challenge

Hi bloggers, today I have another card for a couple of my favourite challenges, and a brand new challenge. The sketch I have used is Waltzingmouse Sketch Challenge, the colours are from The Play Date Cafe, and I am also entering this into The Pretty Little Ribbon Shop Challenge, as I have used some ribbon and twine.

And here's my take:


I have used a base card of pale pink pearlescent card, and cut to size some lime green bazzill.
Then matting onto the bazzill some glittery embossed paper from Nana's Nursery - Girl, and stitched together.

Then onto a melon piece of bazzill, stamped the half frame in Versamark from Waltzingmouse Stamps Vintage Labels No 10, then stamped the little flourish in the middle from the same set.




I then cut two triangular portions in pale pink pearly card and the green bazzill, and part stitched around the edges before finishing off by stitching together on the melon stamped bazzill. This is where it got a bit tricky, and the Sewing Machine and I fell out BIG TIME!!


However, I managed to rescue the wonky stitching, and disguise the areas where she wasn't playing ball!

I then made a tag in the pearly pink paper using Nestabilities No 4, and stamped the little flourish and journalling lines from WMS Very Vintage Labels No. 4. in Pink Petunia chalk ink.

Punched a hole through the top and added some green Loop Trim from The Ribbon Reel, and a rose and gem from stash.

The To: and From: are from WMS Afternoon Tea Sentiments set.


As I took the photos outside in the smidgen of sunshine that's left of today, the wind blew my card over, and as I picked it up, I placed it the wrong way up, and I think I prefer it this way!


Not sure it looks right with the tag in it sideways though! What do you think? The pink and green bakers twine is also from The Ribbon Reel.

The Shabby Tearoom, Card Patterns Sketch, The Pretty Little Ribbon Shop Challenge

Hi bloggers, another post from me today, it's a record lol! I was inspired this morning after checking out the challenge at The Shabby Tearoom, which has the theme of Tea for Two, using blue and green. My two favourite colours! Today also brings us a new challenge from The Pretty Little Ribbon Shop, and this week they would like to see ribbons on your card.
And I had in mind the sketch from the weekend at Card Patterns Sketch Challenge, so I set to.

I have to admit that shabby chic does not come easily to me, but I had a go anyway! Let me know what you think.

Below are the inspiration pic and sketch:





I have used a white linen card base, distressed with Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.

Then taking a panel of some gorgeous Webster's Pages patterned paper and some embossed blue bazzill (I'm not sure what this bazzill is officially called, it comes already embossed, a real time saver!) distressed the edges with Frayed Burlap and set to one side.



I then cut a circular panel using a Nellie Snellen Die Cut, and distressed this shape with Antique Linen.



I then set about tying a variety of bows in various ribbons from The Ribbon Reel in various shades of green and blue and some Liquorice bakers twine, again from The Ribbon Reel.



Then using some green twill, (Ribbon Reel) pleated and adhered with glue dots, and assembled all the layers together. Added a couple of pearly pins, and some creamy pearls .

To keep in with the tea for two theme, I stamped a tea pot and cups from Waltzingmouse Stamps Afternoon Tea Set in Brilliance Metallic Blue, and cut out and adhered to the bow flourish. The sentiment is from WMS Afternoon Tea Sentiments.

I'm really pleased with how this turned out!

The Ribbon Reel Challenge #8

Hi all, today brings us another bi-weekly challenge from The Ribbon Reel, and we have got some gorgeous inspiration for you this week!

This challenge has been picked by Clare Buswell, from Clare's Creations and Gallery Idol fame!!
Below is the beautiful picture Clare has chosen for us this week:




And here is my take:



I have stamped in Versamagic Sea Breeze the beautiful crochet lace mat by Hero Arts, and hand cut out to layer over some gorgeous yellow twill and green loop trim from The Ribbon Reel shop.

The corners are from Waltzingmouse Stamps, stamped in Versamagic Turquoise Gem, and the sentiment is also from WMS, stamped in Versafine Smokey Grey.



I took my inspiration for the focal point directly from the picture, and used the smaller open rose from WMS Roses in Bloom, coloured with my watercolour pencils, as are the two leaves.

I stamped and coloured the rose 3 times for some dimension, it's a great image for decoupage.




A little close up of the sparkle I added with some Crystal Ice and Gold Stickles to the flower and leaves.


Finally added some gold pearls to the corners and a green pearl to the flower centre.

Less is More, Clean and simple Stamping

Morning all, today I have a couple of cards for two challenges: Less is More and Clean and Simple Stamping Sketch.

This week, the Lady LIMs would like us to create a card using the colours of your nation's flag. I'm guessing we are going to see a lot of red, white and blue this week! However, I'm half Irish, both my parents are from Dublin, and with the exception of two uncles and aunts, all my family are in Ireland. So with this in mind, I have made a card in the colours of the Irish Tricolor as well as The Union Jack.

Here's the sketch:





So, my first card is made using a white linen card base, 4 x 6 in size, and I have layered some blue and red dot embossed bazzill together with a running stitch - it's the first time I have used this stitch so it's a bit wonky!



Then using Nestabilities Labels 5, cut a blue panel and a red and white checked panel from Wild Rose Studio For Men paper Pack.



Then layered then together, cut in half and attached to the back of the stitched panel, after wrapping some blue and red bakers twine around it, from the Ribbon Reel.

Finally added some little white flowers that I got last year at The Newbury Show, but have never used! Shame on me!

The sentiment is from Stampin' Up!


Now onto my next card.

Again using a white linen card base, but this one is a large card, 6x8 1/2 inches.

Using some dark green pearlescent bazzill, layered this with some paler green dotted embossed bazzill and stitched together, then layered this onto a label cut using Nestabilities Labels 2 in some glittery green card. Cut in half and attached to top and bottom of the stitched panel.



Cut a large butterfly using a die I've had for about a year, but never used! It's by Marianne Designs, and is gorgeous, but was very tricky to remove, and not all the wing holes had cut properly, so I had to use scissors. Grrr. However, it makes a stunning focal point on it's own, so I mustn't grumble!




Finally added some dewdrops to the centre of the body, and some gold glittery gems to the wings, and stamped the sentiment from Waltzingmouse in Distress ink Spiced Marmalade and Dried Marigold several times from one pressing as I wanted a graduation of colour.

Well, this has got me thinking again as to what nationality means to us in this modern age. But I'm not going to bore any one with my thoughts, but thank you Chrissie and Mandi for coming up with a challenge that has certainly got me thinking. We all like to know where we are from, and have a sense of place, and thinking about which flags to use today has made me realise that I for one don't know enough about my forbears.

Right off for a cuppa, all this thinking has worn me out lol!!

My Beautiful Girl...

... is 9 today! So after getting back from our holiday in Yorkshire yesterday, unpacking, shopping, cooking, and a drop off and pick up from a party, I was finally able to sit down and create a card for her.

I have taken my inspiration from Waltzingmouse Stamps CASE challenge this week, and I have chosen to CASE Sandie Dunne's gorgeous card HERE.

It was hard to choose, as all the have produced some stunning inspiration for us this week.

So here's my take:



I have used a pearlescent card base, and mounted some patterned paper onto a separate piece, then mounted this onto some lilac vellum.



I have stamped the dress form and embossed in black onto some silver grey linen effect card from Papermania, then paper pieced the bodice and frill with some lilac vellum.

Added the sentiment in silver embossing powder, and used a MS punch on the sentiment strip. Added some twine and gems, and a couple of green tinted roses and leaves to finish.

She loves it!

I'm Back....!

....from the wonderful city of York!


This is a picture heavy, non-craft related post, so look away now!

I have been in Yorshire for the past week, and thoroughly enjoyed myself! This is my third trip to York, and it never fails to take my breath away - the beauty of the buildings, and York City itself, the beauty of the surrounding countryside, the Dales, and not least the most friendly of people you could ever hope to meet.

So i am just going to share some pics with you, with the minimum of yada yada, hope you enjoy!

Beautiful Castle Howard...


One of the rooms used in the film Brideshead Revisited - a burnt out room that still has the film set walls and wall hangings with an exhibition detailing the film crew's time there.


Wonderful Whitby Abbey, a crumbling shell of it's former glory, but impressive non the less...


A Tudor house, just for fun!



The famous Shambles, a real example of medieaval architecture, still in use.


The City Walls, still amazingly in use!




The astounding Cathedral, a beautiful building, mesmerising.




The ceiling of the Chapter House, on the side of the Cathedral.




One of the carvings inside the Chapter house - the Medieaval stonemasons certainly had a grisly sense of humour, this particular sinner is having her nose pecked and eyes gouged by what looks like a hawk!


Something that caught my eye - two Policemen's truncheons on a wooden plaque outside the Cathedral Police Office - it has it's own Police!!



This is one of the restaurant's we ate at!! A truly amazing building, I imagine it was a bank originally, it was so grand!

Sadly I forgot my tiara ;-)



Lastly a picture of Clifford's Tower, latterly, York Castle. A ruin but a glorious one on the edge of this most wonderful of Cities.


We had a fantastic time, and my pictures don't do it any justice - if you have never been I thoroughly recommend this beautiful City.

That's all from me today, I was hoping to squeeze in a bit of crafting, but not had the time today!

I will hopefully be back tomorrow with something, it's Waltzingmouse Sketch challenge and Less is More, a couple of my favourites!
